Natural gas industry professionals claim that Ukraine does have its own natural gas production. Natural gas reserves in the nation are enormous; estimates place the proved reserves at over a trillion cubic metres. With annual production levels of about 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas, Ukraine is also a significant producer of this fuel.
But Ukraine also largely depends on natural gas imports, particularly from Russia. This reliance on imported gas has in the past resulted in disagreements and supply interruptions. Ukraine has been attempting to expand local production and diversify its sources of gas imports in order to lessen its reliance on imported gas.
Overall, although having its own natural gas production, Ukraine remains significantly depends on imports and is making efforts to boost domestic production and diversify its import sources. Natural gas experts believe that with the continuing exploration and development of new gas fields, Ukraine's domestic production will continue to grow and help to reduce its dependence on imported gas.
