The National Hockey League was founded in 1917 at the Windsor Hotel in MontrĂ©al. Between 1942 and 1967, the league comprised six teams known as the Original Six. When is the NHL 2022 season?
The NHL season 2022-23 starts on October 11 with a doubleheader. The New York Rangers will host the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:30 p.m. ET or 4:30 p.m. PT. while the Vegas Golden Knights will face off against the Los Angeles Kings at 10 p.m. ET or 7 pm PT. The defending Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche take on the Chicago Blackhawks on October 12 at 9:30 p.m. ET or 6:30 p.m. PT.
When are the NHL 2022 playoffs?
The 2022-23 regular season will end on April 13 2023 and will feature 15 games with 30 of the NHLâs 32 teams in action. The 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs will begin shortly after, but an official date has not been released yet.

After a long offseason consisting of NHL draft drama, an astonishing signing and a blockbuster trade, the 2022-23 NHL regular season is finally here.
The NHL is taking its talents overseas and beginning the season in Prague, Czech Republic this weekend. The Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks will play two games as part of the NHL Global Series, on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at the O2 Arena. This marks the first time the NHL has played games outside North America since 2019.
Following that, the action starts in North America on Oct. 11 with a doubleheader on deck, including a matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden and the Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings.
Seeing as the Chicago Blackhawks are expected to be among the leagueâs worst teams this season, one should reasonably expect the franchise to trade veteran right wing Patrick Kane to a contender. For now, Kane and longtime teammate Jonathan Toews will begin the season in Chicago amid a rebuild. Itâd certainly be interesting if Kane, who hails from upstate New York, found himself playing for the Buffalo Sabres.
Speaking of the Capitals, Alex Ovechkin sits 115 goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzkyâs record of 894 career goals. We can all agree Ovie isnât likely to pass the Great One this season, but he can still set himself up to break the record during the 2023-24 campaign. However, Ovechkin turned 37 in September, so age isnât exactly working in his favor, even after a 50-goal season last year.
