Ulysse Nardin Dive Chronometer Review
What kind of dive watch would you like from a brand like replica Ulysse Nardin, rather than a luxury dive watch? The Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer has not given up on the original idea of a dive watch as a tool meant to be worn and worn, it is an elegant and refined luxury diver's watch that is probably best suited to those who specialize in yachting – whether they also like diving or not In my opinion, there is definitely room for a unique option like this in the $8000 or so luxury dive watch arena. An unavoidable nautical theme may narrow its appeal, but Ulysse Nardin offers something refreshingly different amidst the multitude of safe, familiar and conservative designs it competes with.
The Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer is the brand's core collection, which has undergone several updates over the years. In 2018, the brand updated nearly every part of its designs. Note the differences we discussed when announcing this new Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer generation, and compare it to the upcoming 2014 version announced here, which is itself a redesign. Simplified and dialed back, but retaining the collection’s established sense of flair, it seems like every element of the case and dial has been tweaked for 2018.
The wave-shaped dial pattern of the upcoming version has been replaced by a grained texture, and the mostly skeletonized hands have been replaced by straight, luminous hands. These features contribute to the legibility of any luxury Replica Watches. The now shorter scale makes the dial look more balanced and clean to me, and the redesign of the bezel is more elegant. Even with all these changes, it's still unmistakably an Ulysse Nardin diver's chronograph - how did they do it? Regardless, I'll try not to focus on every nuance compared to previous releases, but upon closer inspection, every element is well thought out and executed.
Taking a closer look is undoubtedly what you want with your Ulysse Nardin diving chronograph. Meticulous detailing and finishing abounds in nearly every nook, cranny, bevel, and angle, many of which are easily overlooked without a watchmaker's magnifying glass or a camera's macro lens. For example, at first I didn't notice the complexity of the bezel and its inserts. Of course, this level of detail is completely unnecessary for a dive watch. While many "luxury sports watches" clearly have beat-the-beaten specs and are actually too expensive, there's no need to delve further into the topic here. I'm sure it can withstand it, but I don't want to see something like an Athens dive watch being abused.
At the same time, however, I don't want to see it overly babysitting since it's clearly meant to be worn. Please don't do this while repairing your boat's engine. Made of titanium, it's light and comfortable, and the case is 44mm wide, which is beautifully designed to fit loose cuffs, but not so much for snug cuffs. The standard 300-meter water resistance is required for the "professional diver's Replica watches for sale" designation, and should be more than enough for normal use and even diving. There are some "boat-themed" watches out there that oddly don't seem to be really ready to go near the water. So while professional dive watch standards may not be necessary - they are overkill for the vast majority of dive watch uses anyway - the cross-dive and yachting theme of Ulysse Nardin dive watches is totally to me meaningful. Usually, water resistance is just a promise of general durability anyway, and durability is something we can all appreciate.
Advanced dive watches aren't just for diving, agree? The sapphire crystal exhibition case back showcasing the UN-118 movement inside is another example of a totally unnecessary but welcome feature. I appreciate a dive watch with a show case back, even if a more pedestrian one like the Oris Aquis Date reviewed here has more movement as many dive watches have a solid case back and offering a window means more effort to achieve the same waterproof level. This is another move for Athens Watch to stand out from its competitors. The UN-118 movement is more worthy of display and careful appreciation.
The fully in-house UN-118 self-winding movement runs at a frequency of 4 Hz and has an ample power reserve of 60 hours. It has an interesting design, with a winged balance bridge, beautifully finished with polished bevels and radial Côtes de Genève stripes. It doesn't seem necessary for brands to "certify" their own watches, but it's an interesting detail, and even the "Ulysse Nardin Certified" stamp itself is nicely stamped on the movement. The UN-118 uses a silicon balance spring and a DIAMonSIL escapement. More and more watchmakers are using silicon for these types of components, but it is particularly interesting and noteworthy in Ulysse Nardin watches because they were the first brand to use silicon.Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon
DIAMonSIL, a combination of silicon and synthetic diamond that "eliminates friction and eliminates the need for lubrication of the escapement", was produced in collaboration with the Swiss company Sigatec. Silicon is also unaffected by magnetization, and each of these properties seems like an answer to an ancient watchmaker's dilemma. The result is a fun and powerful sport. Just in case you need more than that (and the brand's own Ulysse Nardin watch seal of approval), as the name suggests, this is a COSC chronometer certified watch. Besides the obvious time with small seconds and date (6 o'clock) and power reserve indicator (12 o'clock), a nice little touch of the UN-118 movement is that you can easily adjust the date back and forth.
In my opinion, Ulysse Nardin is a creative brand, not only in terms of technology, but also in terms of personality and design, it looks like no other brand - even if there is often a yachting theme that I personally cannot fully understand. The Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer isn't too flashy, but it's modern, sporty and expensive-looking -- and, again, it's probably a little more than some people can convincingly fit into their lives. The recently released Diver Chronometer 42mm and Diver Le Locle are both more traditional dive watches from the brand, and they're arguably more versatile than the models reviewed here if that's your speed.
The titanium case of the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer is not too thick for a diver's replica Watches uk and is light on the wrist. It also feels broadly architected and full of small details - certainly more than necessary. I particularly like the new bezel design compared to the previous generation, but basically everything has been improved in my opinion. Patrick Pruniaux became Ulysse Nardin’s CEO in 2017, and the United Nations tells us he was personally and extensively involved in the Diver Chronometer’s redesign – if this and other recent releases are any indication of where he’s leading the brand, then I’m all for it.
Ulysse Nardin's rubber strap, with its single link acting as a plaque bearing the brand name, is an essential part of the packaging and experience. I can't really imagine wanting to replace it that often, but the bracelet option that some versions offered as a previous generation might be cool too. However, the strap is not as integral to the watch itself as other components. The matching blue rubber is used not only for the strap but also for the bezel insert and crown guard, and while I believe Ulysse Nardin is using a quality material, it remains a question of how durable it will be over time. The age of watches and their materials is something that watch collectors, or probably anyone spending this kind of money on a luxury item, should consider.
People misunderstand luxury dive watches if they find them contradicting themselves in terminology. They serve a slightly different purpose than the rugged tool watch variety. Dive watches are fun to wear, and brands like Ulysse Nardin are improving the details and using higher-end movements to enhance the wearing experience. Of course, take it diving, but just look at the Ulysse Nardin diving chronograph and you will know that it is designed for enjoyment on a different level.replica patek philippe
